About Gold
Jewelry of gold contains almost always other
metals, primarily to make the metal resistant to wear and has carat
number between 8 and 22. One produces almost never jewelry in 24
carat, as the material becomes very soft and bendable.
The "other" metal is usually largely copper, which gives the alloy a
little of its distinctive reddish color or palladium,
which is
used in white gold, then bathed in rhodium to give
the
jewelry the shiny surface.
Gold has throughout
the
history been used as currency in the form of gold coins.
In the past people used gold as a backup to the monetary system as
we know it today. that you could only press the number of money that
had been of value in physical gold, but this was in Britain
permanently separated from each other in 1931, Denmark followed suit
later due to contemporary trade agreements.
Some countries
still
issue gold coins like the Canadian Gold Maple Leafs, Australian Gold
Nuggets, the Vienna Philharmonic with a purity of 99.99% fine gold..
Some
gold
coins are 22 karat such as the South African Krugerrands, American
Gold Eagles and British Sovereigns Gold / Gold BrittaniaCoins are
traded mostly in ounces and one ounce equals 31.1 grams.
